10 Accumulator Seal Support System 8 Accumulator Seal Support System
Initial situation
A Lithium Hydroxide Processing Plant (LHPP), located in Western Australia, wanted a complete, operational and tested Seal Water Accumulator system to be added to their processing plant.
The units must provide pressure and flow regulated water to the site’s seal support systems, while also functioning as the back-up system should the site experience a total black-out event. The design had to adhere to multiple site standards and meet/exceed the clients specified design capabilities:
- Seal support system outlet pressure: 10.5 bar
- Seal support system inlet pressure: 2 bar
- Run-down time: 7 minutes for both units
- Run-down flow rates: 20LPM / 33LPM
The Solution
Two separate accumulator systems were designed and built as a set-and-forget solution to the client’s support system request. Both designs consisted of HYDAC 32L stainless steel bladder accumulators with a remote nitrogen charging system and position monitored isolation valves.
The accumulator water charge circuit consisted of high-pressure pneumatic piston pumps, HYDAC stainless steel process filters, valves to limit and regulate pressure and outlet flow rates, and pressure sensors to provide the site with system monitoring.
