Bulk Diesel Filtration at Daunia Mine QLD
The open cut Daunia coal mine that was officially opened in September 2013 is operated by an excavator and truck fleet. The mine is owned as a 50/50 joint venture between BHP Billiton and Mitsubishi Development Pty Ltd and operated by BMA ( BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance).
The Daunia Mine that is located at the northern end of the Bowen Basin, 18 kilometres south-west of Coppabella, is expected to produce 4.5 million tonnes of quality semi-hard coking coal and PCI (pulverized coal injection) coal for the export market.
HYDAC has provided filtration of bulk fuel and lubricants for Daunia mine.
It was necessary to meet stringent bulk fuel and lube cleanliness levels. The cleanliness target of diesel fuel was ISO16/14 and for the lube ISO18/16/14.
In order to meet the required cleanliness, HYDAC supplied Daunia mine with the RFL welded housing with Optimicron elements.
HYDAC RFL filter series is an inline filter, welded version, with flow capacity up to 1,500 l/min and pressure capacity up to 16 bar. Furthermore, the filter housings are in accordance with international regulations. Indeed, they consist of a two-piece filter housing with a bolt-on cover plate.
This solution was chosen due to the following reasons:
- Common elements used throughout filter selection for reduce stock holding
- Multi-element housings
- Steel construction
- ANSI flanges used on inlet and outlet ports
- Free standing housing
- Proven Optimicron element performance to achieve ISO cleanliness targets in one pass filtration.
