Process water filtration for the Sino Iron Project

The massive Sino Iron project has been developed at Cape Preston, 100 kilometres south west of Karratha in Western Australia’s Pilbara region. It is the largest magnetite mining and processing operation in Australia focused on delivering a world-class magnetite iron ore development which will add value to the Western Australian economy through significant downstream processing, employment, community benefits and international technology transfer while balancing social and environmental considerations.

The problem

The plant had a filter housing that required manual cleaning. Our customer was looking for saving on labour costs and they wanted to implement an automated way of cleaning and, a filter that is reliable and requires least maintenance intervention.

The solution

HYDAC installed the self-cleaning filter type RF3. This product was chosen due to the compact space required for the housing, which was perfectly installed in the space provided. The filter just uses a small amount of water to self-clean itself, and that was an added benefit to the project.
