What is hydraulic filter clogging indicator?
Hydraulic filter clogging indicator is a warning product designed to indicate visually and/or electrically when cleaning or changing the filter elements is necessary. The operational safety of a system and efficient utilisation of a filter element can only be guaranteed if clogging indicators are used. The filter clogging indicator will be different depending on the type of filter, vacuum, return line, or differential pressure clogging indicators.
Fitting a clogging indicator has two main advantages:
- The operator no longer has to estimate when the element is clogged
- The unnecessary costs of changing the element too early are avoided
How does the clogging indicator work when contamination occur?
A clogging indicator fitted into the filter housing indicates via visual or electronic means when the pre-determined differential pressure has been reached. If the contamination of the filter element increases, then the loss of pressure in the filter housing will rise. As soon as we reach to a particular limit value, the clogging indicator indicates an imminent filter element replacement.
When selecting the appropriate clogging indicator, you should consider followings:
- Indication takes place at least 10% before the bypass valve opens
- The range of the tolerance of the triggering pressure must always lie below the triggering pressure of the bypass valve
- The decision as to whether the necessary filter element change has to be carried out may not take place until the system gas reached operating temperature
- Production units should be equipped with clogging indicators with an advance warning signal
