Piston Accumulators Standard
“All our accumulators are dispatched without pre-charge. A pre-charge incurs additional cost. For more information contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org or call us on 03 9272 8900.”
Fluids are practically incompressible and cannot, therefore, store pressure energy. So, the utilisation of compressibility of a gas (nitrogen) in hydraulic accumulators is for storing fluids. That's why HYDAC bases its piston accumulators on this principle.
Indeed, a piston accumulator consists of a fluid section and a gas section with the piston acting as the gas-proof screen. There is a pre-charge of the gas section with nitrogen.
So, the connection of the fluid section to the hydraulic circuit is possible. Therefore, it leads to the piston accumulator drawing in the fluid when the pressure increases and compression of the gas.
